I’ve been teaching and coaching, on and off, for more than 30 years. As an actor myself, I start with character and a deep understanding of the text. Grounded intuition and connection is the platform for breath and voice.
As a coach, teacher and even (in one marvelous, magnetic production) “voiceographer,” my strength is in helping my students cut loose. I spent more than seven years as a coach at Edge Studio, and now teach privately from the wilds of Brooklyn.

Acting is foundational to all other performance work. Homing in on the impulse to communicate and getting infinitely specific with it allows us to go anywhere and do anything vocally. Impulse is intrinsically tied to breath, breath is the foundation of all vocal work. Breaking down text, understanding and connecting to character and impulse, grounding your performance and strengthening your ability to be present will allow your voice to respond flexibly and with deep sensitivity.
I work with students to relax and ground their natural voices, allowing them the freedom to explore size, range, variety, and versatility. I focus on breath and impulse, physical release, strength, skill and precision. I take particular joy in rhythms and musicality, the architecture of the mouth, and the physical components of sound and language.
Building on voice & speech work that is connected to text and to character, accents & dialects are the next technical step in training. Understanding and incorporating basic sound and rhythmic adjustments, we can move into character work with increased facility and strength. The ultimate goal is precision, integration and ownership.
